18.3. Can I insure an item if the buyer pays cash?
If the buyer has paid cash for an item, and the item needs to be shipped, it cannot be insured.
Our shipping insurance program complies with eBay's safe payments policy. eBay expects an electronic form of payment to be used in most categories. If cash is exchanged, it's usually when an item is delivered in person. If an item is paid for in cash and needs to be shipped to a location, the package cannot be covered by our insurer. A payment transaction must exist at eBay. This requires for the buyer to have used eBay's checkout process. In the event of needing to file a claim, there has to be proof of value and a monetary transaction has to have been recorded. This would be in the form of an electronic payment method.
